The purpose of this ministry is twofold: (1) to support our church in its preparations to celebrate the birth of Our Lord, Jesus; and (2) to promote ongoing fellowship and share the love by creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for all who enter our church during the holiday season.
We find the tallest most beautiful Christmas trees in town, get the tallest ladders we can find, and decorate the trees with beautiful red bows, golden ornaments and lots of twinkling lights. Then we get busy on the rest of the church, hanging long garland and making it look tastefully magnificent. Of course, we also set up the crèche so that all who visit our Parish KNOW the reason we are celebrating the season!
AN ANSWER TO A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION
"Do I have to get on ladders and climb things?" The answer is NO. Some people are happy to decorate high into the heavens and others are much happier when their feet are firmly on the ground. If you are not comfortable or are physically not able to stand or climb on a ladder, no worries! There are plenty of other things to do like unpack the ornaments, fluff the garland, etc. You can even be in a wheelchair and we will find something for you to do! Decorating the church is a BIG job and we appreciate all the help we get!
SIGNS OUR COMMISSION IS ACCOMPLISHING ITS PURPOSE
When people congregate to attend mass at our church, we hope see the following behaviors:
Joyful visitation of the crèche and children happily asking about Baby Jesus
Frequent attacks of smiling both in an out of the church
Frequent gatherings in front of decorations for photographs
Contented feelings of connectedness with others
Frequent episodes of appreciation and charitable activity
An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it back to others
An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment, great and small
