MINISTRY PURPOSE:
Through this commission, our members grow in Faith and love of God and His Church by knowledge and understanding of Sacred Scripture.
DESCRIPTION:
The Saint Coleman Women's Council is proud to offer Bible Study courses through Catholic Scripture Study International (CSS). This program is ideal for individuals looking for an inspiring Bible Study that is completely faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church. It is the fastest-growing Catholic Bible Study program in the world, with groups in over 40 countries.
Each year we focus on different books of the Bible. Classes meet weekly from September through May with no classes during Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter weeks. A schedule of exact days and times will be made available to participants upon attendance at the first session.
Class Format (90 minutes):
Opening ( 15 minutes) - The group settles in and opens with prayer. Announcements are made at this time.
Discussion Groups (45 minutes) - Participants break into small groups to discuss the study questions for the weekly lesson. (Participants are expected to have read the lesson material and answered the study questions prior to class each week.) Ideal group size is 10-12 members, including Group Leader.
Lecture (30 minutes) - All participants gather to watch a DVD lecture based on the lesson. CSS Program lectures are prepared and presented by priests and are designed to guide participants to a deeper understanding of the Scripture on which the lesson is based.
Our Study for 2012/2013: The Book of Hebrews and The Epistle of Saint James:
The format of the CSS program includes facilitated group discussion and lectures on DVD that accompany each week's lesson. The lectures are given by Catholic priests. The study commentaries are written by leading Scripture scholars and authors such as Dr. Scott Hahn, Carl Olson, Mark Shea, and Stephen Ray. Each study contains references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Papal Encyclicals, writings of the early Church Fathers and the Saints. Additional resources are available to study leaders and students on the CSS website, including an Ask the Author forum, maps and articles pertinent to each course of study. As dozens of our students will attest - this program is truly a faith-building and grace-filled experience for all who participate!!
